What will I do on this course?

This Music Technology course is built around practical, creative projects that develop the skills needed to create, record, produce and manipulate sound. You will work with professional music software and equipment, exploring MIDI production, synthesis, sampling, studio recording, mixing, sound design, live technology and music for media.

As you progress through the levels, you will develop greater independence, explore professional production techniques and begin to develop your own creative identity as a music technologist.

MIDI Production & Sequencing – Create beats, arrangements and music using MIDI and virtual instruments.

• Studio Recording – Record vocals, instruments and other sound sources using microphones and studio equipment.

• Mixing & Audio Processing – Shape recordings using EQ, compression, effects, automation and creative processing.

• Sound Design – Create and manipulate sounds for music, media and other creative applications.

• Music & Sound for Media – Produce music and audio for film, video, games and other visual media.

• Live Music Technology – Explore technology used in live performance, playback and sound production.

• Creative Production – Develop tracks from initial ideas through experimentation, arrangement and final production.

• Professional Practice – Explore industry roles, workflows, collaboration and progression opportunities.

• Specialist Projects – At higher levels, develop your own creative direction through research, experimentation and independent production.

The Level 3 qualification is designed to combine practical skills with theoretical understanding and increasingly independent creative work, culminating in self-directed specialist projects.
