Making bright and successful futures a reality for all learners
Making bright and successful futures a reality for all learners
A Supported Internship is an education-based offer for young people with SEND that provides a meaningful work placement in a real workplace. Learners will study within college for 1-2 days per week and can spend up to 4 days a week on their work placement. The aim of a Supported Internship is to help young people move successfully and meaningfully from education into paid employment.
As of academic year 2023/24, TMP College are delivering a Supported Internship for students in their last year of their educational health care plan as one of their chosen pathways. We utilise accredited employment coaches from Wigan Council's Supporting Skills and Futures Team, who work with young people to find out their aspirations, match to a suitable work placement, complete any in-work support / training required, and remain in touch with employers and students through regular reviews.
Our supported internship programme directly relates to Gatsby Benchmarks 5 and 6 in which the learner will have encounters with employers and employees and have real experience of the workplace whilst at the same time considering the needs of learner and being able to access a bespoke programme.
